MG ZS EV

If you’ve decided that you’re definitely going to go electric, now is the time to do it.

Stop umming and aahing and get one of these while you still can.

And that’s because the first 1,000 people to order this smart looking MG ZS EV, with a range of 163 miles (WLTP), will get their hands on what MG call: “The first truly affordable, family friendly, electric car.”

And at an astonishing £21,495 it is “truly affordable” compared to the prices being asked by some brands.

Two versions of the ZS EV are on sale, so while £21,495 will get you the Excite model, its upmarket stablemate, the Exclusive, is £23,495.

Once the first 1,000 cars have gone, the Excite returns to its normal on the road price of £28,495, after deducting the Government grant of £3,500 and a matching MG EV grant. The Exclusive goes back to £30,495.

Would be owners will have to pay a £500 deposit to secure their orders but it doesn’t just end there because it also includes a free home charging point and installation.

Both cars have their lithium-ion batteries covered as part of MG’s seven year warranty, and as the Chinese owned company’s
Gigafactory in Shanghai is capable of producing 300,000 a year there should be plenty in reserve.

The ZS EV is MG’s most high-tech car ever. Both the Excite and the Exclusive feature MG Pilot driver assistance, which offers support when required for stress free driving, advanced emergency braking, blindspot monitoring, lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control, which keeps you the distance of your choice from the car in front.

There’s also a large split level boot, big enough for bikes and pushchairs, with hidden storage areas and a panoramic, sliding sunroof.

An 8in colour touchscreen includes sat nav, DAB radio, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth phone connectivity with audio streaming.

Its water-cooled 44.5kWh battery delivers 143hp and a whacking 353Nm (261lb) of instant torque, resulting in 0-62mph in 8.7s and a top speed of 87mph.

A new “star-rider” grille contains its charging port, there are lighter and more aerodynamic 17in alloys and a choice of four body colours including this new Pimlico Blue.

MG’s Head of Sales & Marketing, Daniel Gregorious, said: “With a £21,495 price point at launch, ZS EV is a compelling option for customers who want to switch from old school petrol and diesel cars and enjoy all the wonderful benefits of electric motoring.

“ZS EV is here to revolutionise the way people think about electric cars. It brings zero-emissions motoring within everyone’s reach.

“Make no mistake, this car isn’t a brand statement or a vanity project, we’re here to sell electric cars … and to sell big!”
